Commercial Roofing and Fall Maintenance 101

Commercial Roofing and Fall Maintenance 101

As a business owner, certainly the last thing that you want (on top of everything you have to worry about already) is the unexpected cost of roof repair. God forbid you have to replace the whole thing! It’s such an easy thing to overlook. Too often we take it for granted, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Winter is coming up quick, so now might be a good time to ask yourself: “What can I do to properly maintain my roof?” We’re gonna dive into a couple of tips on fall time maintenance today, starting with…

  • Regular Roof Inspection

How often do you have your roof inspected? If your answer isn’t twice a year, you’re not alone. A lot of business owners aren’t aware of it, but professionals recommend bi-annual full roof inspections. Thankfully fall is a perfect time to start this: just after a summer that could wear your roof down and just before a winter that could finish the job.

During the inspection, try to ensure that everything gets covered. Any loose or damaged tiles could be a cause for a concern. Make sure you get every corner checked during it, as well. Whether it’s your chimney, a skylight, or a vent, these areas are highly susceptible to leaks.

  • Fix the Small Problems Before they Grow

Preventative measures are going to be your best friend when it comes to repairing your roof. During the inspection did your preferred roofing company see something that concerned them? Don’t hesitate; get it out of the way before it becomes something bigger. Whether it’s a broken tile or a detaching gutter, there is no problem too small if you’re considering repairs.

  • Check for Leaks

Regardless of how well your roof inspection might have gone, it’s never a terrible idea to keep your hunt going inside. A leak can still fly under the radar of your roof, so make sure you check the next line of defense: your ceiling. Make sure that you scour the whole area, checking any hallway, room, and closet that you have. If you come across any black patches, beware: these are a symptom of leaks and require immediate professional assistance.

  • Gutter Repair, Upkeep, and Maintenance

The gutter system on your roof does so much that we don’t often respect as much as we should. It’s so important to consistently keep an eye on them to ensure they’re in optimal working condition — particularly before any cold or wet season comes to visit. Without the gutter diverting the flow of precipitation, we would have to worry about water backing up and getting caught in some really sensitive parts of our roof. This is universally a bad thing that can be devastating on the wallet.

When it comes to protecting your gutter, consider a gutter guard. Gutter guards are a great, affordable option that help by adding an extra layer of defense. They are crafted with ports that allow water to get in without allowing any large debris which can save you a considerable amount of time. Of course, if you have any nearby trees or bushes, still give them a trim no matter what. The gutter guard will just help that much more and a little bit of help goes a long way with your business.
